About the fund

The CleanBC Communities Fund (CCF) provides provincial and federal funding for community infrastructure projects that reduce reliance on fossil fuels. While the fund is no longer open for new intakes, it continues to actively support cost-shared infrastructure projects that focus on management of renewable energy, improved access to clean-energy transportation, improved energy efficiency of buildings and the generation of clean energy.

The CCF is a component of the federal Investing in Canada Infrastructure Program’s (ICIP) Green Infrastructure – Climate Change Mitigation sub-stream, with an overall focus on reducing greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions. Provincial and federal governments have invested up to $249 million across three intakes of CCF:

  • Intake 1  - up to $49.7 million ($19.1 million provincial and $30.6 million federal)
  • Intake 2  - up to $46 million ($21.1 million provincial and $25 million federal)
  • Intake 3  - up to $153 million ($58.6 million provincial and $94.4 million federal)

Project outcomes

Projects must result in measurable GHG reductions and climate change mitigation in B.C. communities.

CCF projects improve or build new tangible physical infrastructure, primarily for public use and benefit. Routine maintenance and repair projects are not eligible.

Projects must have met at least one of the following outcomes to have been considered eligible under the program:

  • Outcome 1 - increased capacity to manage renewable energy
  • Outcome 2 - increased access to clean energy transportation
  • Outcome 3 - increased energy efficiency of buildings
  • Outcome 4 - increased generation of clean energy

Projects must be completed by March 31, 2033.
